-

LNER Azuma 800113 has been delivered to Hitachi’s Doncaster Carr depot.

The nine-car bi-mode was built in Kasado (Japan), and its arrival means the order for 13 nine-car ‘800/1s’ has been completed. Of the 13, 800102/104/106/108/110 are products of Newton Aycliffe (County Durham), while 800103/105/107/ 109/111-113 are Japanese sets.

The pioneer (800101) will be a mixture. Having been delivered in 2016 from Japan, three vehicles from that set are now formed in Great Western Railway Class 800/3s, with the replacements being assembled at Newton Aycliffe.

Work is progressing in the North East on the five-car Class 800/2 bi-modes, with 800203 being delivered, while Class 801 electric multiple unit vehicles are also being delivered for assembly.
