Cars making a comeback
Gatwick Airport is a busy place, with 282,000 recorded flights in 2017, carrying 45.6 million passengers.
Low-cost operator EasyJet had by far the biggest share of the business, with 18.5 million customers (40%). The most popular destination was Barcelona (1.5 million).
Road transport to the airport seems to be winning back market share, with 36% of people arriving by private car, followed by rail (34%), taxi (15%), coach (8%), plane ( 5%) and hire car (2%).
