Class 50s reach Tweedbank

-

A pair of preserved Class 50s hauled a Pathfinder Tours charter to Tweedbank on January 5. The charter was run to mark the 50th anniversary of the closure of the Waverley route, and was originally scheduled to be hauled by 55009 Alycidon. However, the Deltic was unavailable, and so 50007 Hercules and 50049 Defiance from the Class 50 Alliance were used instead. Class 50s did traverse the route before it closed in 1969. Masquerading as long-scrapped classmate 50006 Neptune, 50007 stands at Tweedbank, having arrived with the charter from Birmingham New Street. PAUL WINTER.
