HS2 Ltd offers a glimpse of the future at Old Oak Common
HS2 Ltd has released the latest images of its Old Oak Common interchange station, as preparatory works continue at the site.
The station is being designed by a team led by WSP and architects WilkinsonEyre, and is expected to handle 250,000 passengers per day.
Six 450 metre-long platforms will be built for HS2 within a 1km underground box (similar to Stratford International on High Speed 1). The underground station will connect HS2 with Crossrail, with provision for future services to Wales and the West of England. A new public park will be built above them. An above-ground concourse will link the two halves of the station.
HS2 says the new station and associated regeneration could support up to 65,000 jobs and 25,500 homes.
HS2 Minister Nusrat Ghani said: “The task for our designers and engineers now is to take these ideas from the drawing board to reality, building an iconic station that is accessible, safe and open to all.”
HS2 Ltd awarded contracts on February 6 to construct the new stations at Old Oak Common and Euston. A Mace and Dragadis S.A joint venture will build Euston, while a joint venture comprising Balfour Beatty, VINCI Construction UK, VINCI Construction Grands Projets SAS and SYSTRA will deliver Old Oak Common.
