Trains return to Bow Street

-

Trains are serving Bow Street in mid-Wales for the first time in almost 56 years, after the new station welcomed its first train on February 14.

Transport for Wales’ 0849 Machynlleth-Aberystwyth was the first to call at the station, at 0912 ( see picture, right).

The previous station had closed in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts.

It’s the first station to open in Wales since Pye Corner in December 2014. Funded by the Department for Transport and the Welsh Government, it had been expected to generate more than 30,800 journeys in its first year, when estimates were made pre-COVID.

The station is expected to reduce congestion and parking problems in Aberystwyth, as well as creating education and employment opportunities.

It features a 100-metre single platform with a waiting shelter, real-time information point and ticket machine. A 70-space park and ride car park, bus drop-off and pick-up point, access to local cycle routes, and a covered cycle shelter have also been provided.
