Cardiff-Holyhead to feature Mk 4s
Mk 4s will be introduced on the Cardiff Central-Holyhead route from the May timetable, with three sets running daily.
Transport for Wales is not only replacing the Mk 3s that were used on the route pre-COVID, it is also increasing the number of locomotive-hauled trains on the route from one to three. All will feature First Class and a catering service.
The Driving Van Trailers in the sets will carry special liveries celebrating charities. Two have been selected by TfW staff (Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice), while a third is being chosen by the public via a Twitter poll that closed on February 17 (as this issue of RAIL went to press).
The choices were Mind Cymru, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and Wales Air Ambulance.
