Rail offers hopes for modal shift

-

While services in other parts of the UK could be affected by COVID-19 in the long term, in Wales rail can help with modal shift.

That was the verdict of Transport for Wales Chief Executive James Price, who told the Welsh Affairs Committee on February 11: “There’s lots of commentary that says

COVID spells the end of public transport. That may be true for south east England, but not here.

“Why do I say that? Modal shift. Over 90% of journeys in North Wales are made in the car.”

Price said the target must be to grow rail’s 6% market share in the region.
