Work starts on new parcels hub at Daventry
Construction of Royal Mail’s new parcels hub at Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal is under way.
It is due to be completed in 2023 and will be the company’s biggest parcels depot, able to process more than a million parcels per day. Another hub is being built at Warrington.
Before the COVID pandemic, DIRFT handled around 6,500 trains per year. However, volumes are said to be increasing significantly - particularly for rail freight - due to greater road congestion and a light goods vehicle driver shortage.
