All but one TfW Class 142 scrapped

-

Fourteen of 15 former Transport for Wales Class 142s have been scrapped by Sims Metals at Newport Docks, a little over a month after the final examples were withdrawn.

TfW dispensed with the twocar Pacers at the end of 2020, following the introduction of Class 769 FLEX bi-modes on the Valley Lines and a cascade of Class 153s ( RAIL 924).

The ‘142s’ ran to Landore (Swansea) under their own power. They were then stripped of components before being taken by road to Newport. The final set was 142080, which moved on February 4.

One set (142006) has been preserved, although as this issue of RAIL went to press no details of its new home had been revealed.
