Southeastern gets smarter and safer
Southeastern has begun design work on a standardised meeting room for many of its stations, as well as embarking upon a £1.5 million programme that will provide CCTV cameras to better protect depots and stabling points.
Gillingham, Gravesend and Herne Bay have been singled out for new seating, heating and lighting, passenger information systems, charging points and interior decoration.
The booking hall at Canterbury East will be refurbished, as will the customer toilets at Lewisham. And Margate and Ramsgate will have their waiting areas decluttered and redecorated.
The safety of operating staff is high on Southeastern’s agenda, with £330,000 promised in surveillance equipment to reduce trespass and vandalism.
General improvements will also be made to supervisors’ and information points, as well as staff areas at Chatham, Deal, Hastings, Lewisham, London Cannon Street, Margate, Maidstone East, New Cross, Rainham, Rochester, Sidcup, Sittingbourne, Swanley, Tunbridge Wells, West Dulwich, and Woolwich Arsenal.
