Waterloo’s Victory Arch rededicated
London Waterloo’s Grade 1-listed Victory Arch has been rededicated a century after it was built to honour the fallen of the First World War. Designed by the LSWR’s Chief Architect J R Scott, the Portland stone and bronze arch on Station Approach depicts War and Peace, with Britannia holding the torch of liberty above. Railway Chaplain Rev Christopher Henley was joined by representatives from Network Rail, South Western Railway, the Railway Heritage Trust, British Transport Police and the armed forces in a ceremony on March 21. The event featured readings and poems while the Last Post was also sounded at 1100.
