High-speed to Leeds
With the furore generated by the Integrated Rail Plan, an important conclusion has not been highlighted.
Once the combined north/south
and east/west high-speed rail network is developed, as illustrated in the IRP, the temptation could be to route all London to Leeds (and beyond) high-speed trains via Manchester.
The Manchester to Leeds section could effectively become “the” preferred route for all north/south high-speed trains, inevitably at a cost to the local services using it.
