SWR increases conservation push

-

Four more South Western Railway stations are to become wildlife-friendly, in a conservation partnership struck up with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

Sunningdale, Havant, Ashurst and Brading have been chosen, to follow up an initiative started in 2014 at three locations in Surrey (Effingham Junction, Oxshott and Hinchley Wood).

The initiative includes putting up nesting boxes, planting wild flowers, and cutting holes in fences for hedgehogs.

■ SWR is also supporting a ‘Get on Track’ programme in Southampton to provide disadvantaged young people with work skills. It has the support of elite and ex-Paralympic athletes, the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, and Woodlands Community College.
