Bramble to create micro-tunnels
Pupils from Old Oak Primary School in west London have named the first of two ‘mini’ HS2 tunnel boring machines to be launched at Wormwood Scrubs at the end of April.
The newly named Bramble and a second (currently unnamed) TBM will be used to create nine microtunnels, enabling utilities and the Stamford Brook Sewer to be relocated as part of construction of the new hub station and interchange at Old Oak Common.
Children from a Year 3 class were given three names (Bramble, Buttercup and Daisy) to choose from, to reflect the natural landscape and vegetation on the Scrubs.
