Canopies cut back at MML stations

- NETWORK RAIL.

The unveiling of two plaques has marked the completion of a £2.5 million project to cut back the Grade 2-listed station canopies at Kettering and Wellingborough, in order to improve clearances for the extended electrification of the Midland Main Line.

The ceremonies on March 30 were the last officially attended by Andy Savage (left) before his retirement as Executive Director of the Railway Heritage Trust, which awarded a grant of almost £450,000 to the project.

Also present was Dr Toby Driver (right), great-great-grandson of Wellingborough station’s original designer Charles Henry Driver.

The similarly listed goods shed nearby has also been renovated to provide a walkway for passengers on Platform 1.
