Second Vivarail D-Train shipped to the USA
Vivarail has exported a second battery-powered D-train across the Atlantic, in support of the ‘Pop-Up Metro’ concept in the USA. A two-car unit formed of refurbished ex-London Underground District Line stock was shipped to Baltimore on April 9, to join an identical unit in Rockhill Furnace (Pennsylvania) in late May for testing and demonstrations. The intention is to lease them for use on underutilised lines across the USA as a lower-cost, lower-risk way to provide rail-based transit services.
