Reston returns to the national network
Border Piper Sandy Mutch plays Scotland the Brave on May 23, as the 0616 TransPennine Express service from Edinburgh becomes the first passenger train to stop at Reston in more than 50 years.
A new £20 million two-platform station on the East Coast Main Line connects the Berwickshire village to the rail network for the first time since it lost services under the Beeching cuts in 1964.
To mark the occasion, TPE named 802212 St Abbs
Head, after the nearby Scottish National Trust reserve.
The operator also handed out goody bags and invited local primary school children to visit the station, greet the arrival of Scottish Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth, and then take a complimentary day trip to Edinburgh.
Reston is served by eight trains per weekday in each direction, with seven provided by TPE and one by LNER.
