South Wales Metro ‘398’ arrives for testing

On May 19, Transport for Wales 398001 arrives at Asfordby, where the Melton Rail Innovation & Development Centre is based. It is the first of 36 electric-battery three-car tram-trains to be delivered by Stadler for testing, ahead of the fleet’s expected introduction in early 2023 on South Wales Metro services from Cardiff to Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr Tydfil.
