Residents learn of Lydney rail work

-

Chepstow residents were invited by Network Rail to attend a drop-in event on May 25, to learn more about plans to upgrade a section of the route between Newport and Gloucester.

Buses will replace trains between July 18-September 3, while £25 million worth of resilience work takes place on a three-mile stretch of railway near Lydney that runs alongside the Severn Estuary.

NR says that climate change and more frequent extreme weather events have led to five major landslips along this exposed portion of track in the last two years alone.

During the closure, approximately 30,000 tonnes of material will be removed from the cliff face at Lydney, while a mesh and bolt system is installed to protect the railway from falling debris.
