Manchester signal box to be removed

-

Network Rail is gearing up to remove the 132-year-old signal box near Philips Park in Manchester over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday (June 2-5).

Control of signalling equipment will transfer to Manchester Rail Operating Centre, while 29 new signals are due to be installed.

NR will also take advantage of the line closure between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge to replace almost 4,000 metres of track and secure 2,800 metres of overhead line equipment.

Rail replacement bus services will be in operation, while some services will be diverted to run via Manchester Piccadilly.
