Revised Euston station designs displayed for residents
Residents living on the doorstep of the new HS2 Euston station have been given a chance to have their say on what it will look like before the formal planning application is lodged.
The Camden community was invited to walk across the site on May 20, with more sessions taking place until June 21.
The revised and slimmed-down plans for a ten-platform station, now to be built in a single stage, were revealed in March.
A 3-D model shows how a geometric roof will allow natural light to flood into the station concourse. Elements of the roof can be prefabricated off-site and installed using modular construction techniques reducing costs, carbon emissions and local disruption.
Other features at Euston include a north-south route through the HS2 station concourse, linked with others at an elevated level. Proposals for the nearby Network Rail station will feature better connections to five Underground lines.
The station designs have been drawn up by a design consortium comprising organisations including Arup, WSP, and Grimshaw Architects, working into HS2’s Station Construction Partner, Mace Dragados JV (MDJV).
Despite the redesign, the capacity to run up to 17 trains per hour remains.
