‘Trainbow’ livery honours Alan Turing

- GWR.

Great Western Railway honoured Second World War Enigma codebreaker Alan Turing at London Paddington on May 26, by naming an Intercity Express Train after him. A new ‘Trainbow’ livery was also unveiled on 800008, to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. Members of Turing’s family were present to hear how the founder of modern computing helped to change social attitudes in Britain. After being prosecuted for gross indecency in 1952 and then being found dead from cyanide poisoning two years later, he was eventually pardoned in 2013. It brought about a legal amendment, known at Turing’s law, that has pardoned 65,000 other convicted gay and bisexual men.
