NRM travels into the future

-

New technology - and how it will shape the future of travel - is the theme of a new Innovation Platform exhibition at the National Railway Museum in York.

Launched as part of the York Festival of Ideas promoted by the city’s university, the exhibition is being staged in the Station Hall. It opened on June 18 and will run through to summer 2024. Entry is free.

Until the end of the year, visitors will be able to see a display of Autonomous Technology, which seeks to explain how driverless transport could carry passengers to and from stations on the first and last legs of their journeys.

There is also Prometheus, an inspection drone that enables Network Rail to explore and map mine workings, and ActiWheel, a partnership between universities and industry companies to improve wheelsets for better cornering performance and reduced track damage.

The subjects of the following three shows will be on Decarbonisation (JanuaryJune 2023), Smart Cities (July-December 2023), and Communities (January-June 2024).

Part of the exhibition will also travel to Locomotion, Shildon.
