Premiere for Euro-6 diesel-electric shunter
Railway Support Services was due to launch its new three-axle Euro-6 diesel-electric locomotive at Rail Live at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre on June 22-23 (as this issue of RAIL went to press).
The Canadian-designed TP60 is being pitched as a logical replacement for the venerable Class 08 shunter, of which RSS has a fleet of 60. The company says it will begin to replace its ‘08s’ from next year.
The TP60s have a tractive effort of 70,000lbs and can move 3,000 tonnes (twice that of the ‘08’) at speeds of up to 25mph. The locomotives can run on low-sulphur HVO fuel, although other power units can be accommodated - including hydrogen, LPG, hybrid or battery-electric - depending on user requirements.
