Brown is RSSB’s new chairman
Mike Brown CBE MVO has been appointed as the new chairman of the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB).
The former London Transport Commissioner’s appointment took effect from June 23.
While at Transport for London, Brown (pictured) was responsible for the successful delivery of Tube and main line services for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
Under his leadership, TfL also embarked on major station upgrades and line extensions, as well as introducing the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone.
TfL took over responsibility for Crossrail, while Brown also led the organisation’s early response to the Coronavirus pandemic, shortly before leaving in 2020 to chair the Delivery Authority for the restoration of the
Houses of Parliament.
He is a former chairman of the National Skills Academy for Rail and has been recognised with a CBE for his services to public transport.
He was appointed as Member for the Royal Victorian Order by Her Majesty the Queen in 2002, and was awarded a National Rail Award for Outstanding Personal Contribution (Senior Management) in 2020.
“Mike brings a huge amount of experience and knowledge to the board and will help ensure RSSB is fully prepared to the new industry structure,” said RSSB CEO Mark Phillips.
“I very much look forward to working with him, and would like to thank Barbara Moorhouse who stepped down as chair in May for the support and guidance she has provided over the past three and a half years.”
