Council approves new exhibition hall at Shildon
Plans for a new exhibition building at Locomotion, Shildon, have been approved by Durham County Council.
The building, to be known as New Hall, will house up to 50 vehicles from the national collection, meaning that Locomotion becomes home to the largest undercover collection in the world.
The redevelopment aims to support an increase in visitor numbers by 50,000 people, to reach 250,000 a year.
It is expected to open in autumn 2023 to host part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of Flying Scotsman.
