GRBf and Freightliner trains in collision near Doncaster
Accident investigators are examining a collision between two freight trains near Doncaster on July 5.
The collision took place on the single-track chord between Loversall Carr Junction and Flyover West Junction, just south of Doncaster’s freight yards, at around 0625. GBRf 66729, hauling the 0046 Felixstowe NorthMasborough, ran into the rear of Freightliner’s 0036 Felixstowe North-Tinsley Intermodal.
There were no reports of injuries, and the collision took place clear of the East Coast Main Line which left passenger services unaffected. However, 66729 derailed as it rode over the rear wagons of Freightliner’s trains, bursting open containers and scattering their contents onto the track.
