German team wins Railway Challenge
A German team from FH Aachen & Reuschling has beaten six other teams to emerge victorious in this year’s Railway Challenge.
Held at Stapleford Miniature Railway in Leicestershire on June 23-26, the challenge tasks teams of students, apprentices and young professionals to follow a system engineering process to develop, build and test a railway locomotive that meets specific competition objectives and onand off-track challenges.
These include ride comfort, traction, noise, reliability, business case, innovation and energy storage.
The runner-up was a team from Transport for London while Alstom and University of Derby took third spot.
“As we hopefully leave the disruption of the pandemic behind us, we were again able to run all the main challenges,” said Organising Committee Chairman Professor Simon Iwnicki.
“The Railway Challenge provides a fantastic learning experience and many of the participants take these lessons with them as they progress their careers.”
