DC Rail acquires Class 60s from DB Cargo
60008/080/061/070/038/009/090/064 stand at Brush, Loughborough, on June 15, having been bought from DB Cargo by DC Rail. They are expected to yield spares and be potential candidates for later overhauls. There are a further five ‘60s’ at the site (60013/022/075/098/057), which are rumoured to be
receiving extensive overhauls by UK Rail Leasing. Meanwhile, a 14th locomotive (60099) has been taken to UKRL’s site at Leicester to be reactivated, and it will be the first ‘60’ to work for DCR. The entire 100-strong Class 60 fleet was built in Loughborough by Brush Traction in 1989-93, but now faces an uncertain future with fewer than a third still in service. One example has been scrapped (ex- DB Cargo 60006), while three are now in preservation.
