User-worked crossings

-

Philip Haigh says: “There must be a simpler way of reducing risks at level crossings.” (RAIL 956).

There is. Introduce the German system. The crossings are controlled and opened/closed by the signaller. A phone call asks for the gates to be opened and, after a short conversation, the gates will be opened. Naturally it includes CCTV at each crossing.

Is it expensive? Are accidents at crossings expensive?
