Heatwave fuels climate concerns
Research by LNER reveals a rising concern for climate change, following the recent heatwave.
It says temperatures of up to 40°C (RAIL 962) caused people to shift their views on the impacts of climate change and how they can play their part in slowing it.
The YouGov survey of 2,000 people, over three separate weeks from July 11, found that after the heatwave, nine out of ten people (89%) feel that climate change has contributed to the recent hot weather - 12% more than in the period leading up to it.
This has led to a similar shift of people considering ways in which they can change their lifestyles to help prevent climate change (up from 37% to 49%).
Travel is one area being reconsidered by those looking to make a change, with 25% of adults prioritising their mode of travelling to and around their holiday destinations, giving priority to those that are better for the environment.
To coincide with this, LNER has launched a second edition of its Green Guide, showcasing sustainable options for visiting destinations on the East Coast route.
