Earl’s Court 1905 lightboxes restored
The trains may be different, but some passengers using Earl’s Court Underground station can still rely on the same illuminated platform destination boards that their great great grandparents saw back in 1905.
Four distinctive blue and white lightboxes on the platforms have been carefully restored and wired up to the new signalling system, with the intention that they could still be in use in the middle of this century.
It has taken engineers 16 months to renovate the items on the District Line platforms at the Grade 2 Listed station, with funding from Transport for London.
