Staff trained to help the vulnerable

-

Northern is training its workforce of 7,000 on how to intervene if they see vulnerable passengers in trouble at its stations and on trains.

Conductors and front line customer service employees will be on the lookout for people being subjected to abuse or intimidation.

The training is being provided by the Railway Children charity.

In 2020, British Transport Police handled 26,000 such incidents. Most digital on-train announcements urge passengers to text message 61016 if they see anything they are unhappy about.
