‘20s’ evoke classic Summers to Skegness

- PETER FOSTER.

In a re-creation of one of British Rail’s classic Summer Saturday workings, Vintage Trains took 20142 and 20189 to Skegness on August 12. Leaving Tyseley at 0814, the ‘20s’ worked the train via Nuneaton and Leicester, before passing Nottingham and Sleaford to reach Skegness at 1224. They returned at 1631 and arrived back in Tyseley at 2125. The ‘Jolly Fisherman’ headboard makes reference to the classic poster advertising Skegness’s bracing atmosphere, as seen by the Great Northern Railway in 1908.
