Doric Arch on video
Regrettably, a screen projection is no substitute for the real Doric Arch (RAIL 959).
As an architectural ensemble, the two lodges on either side of the arch were very much an important part of it, as indeed were the buildings around the inner courtyard - especially the Great Hall (a very grand and unique interior).
Before the decision to demolish and build the charmless and tawdry new Euston, it was a sad fact that no attempt had been made over a number of years to clean these astonishing historic structures.
I remember that the Great Hall was uncared for and cluttered
with unsightly signage and paraphernalia.
It would be possible now for users of the renewed and emerging Euston to have a display or a virtual reality experience of the historic Euston, located perhaps in the circulating area-to-be. Indeed, an admission charge could be made, supporting railway or other charities.
