Slate and aggregates…
DC Rail 60046 William Wilberforce passes increasingly arid fields at Middle Stoke on August 4, as it nears the end of its 0727 Willesden-Isle of Grain working with empty box wagons. Once loaded with aggregates, it will head back for Willesden as the 1212 from Grain. This is a new flow for DC Rail, which already has an established network of aggregate traffic. British Rail first introduced the 100 Class 60s as heavy haul freight locomotives from 1990. At privatisation, the fleet went to EWS (now DB Cargo) which retains most of the fleet with GB Railfreight and DC Rail having smaller stables of the type.
