Beverley bridge in poor condition

-

Much of the unsafe timber superstructure at Beverley station’s classic ornamental North Eastern Railway footbridge is to be demolished in the coming weeks.

However, the remaining ironwork of the Grade 2 Listed structure, parts of which are 130 years old, will be rescued and renovated next year - albeit exposed to the open air. East

Riding Council and Historic England have approved the works, and some redundant parts have been offered to the National Railway Museum.

The bridge had to be closed off from September 9, because pieces of wood were falling onto the tracks. There has been criticism of the way the glazed building has been allowed to get into such a poor state.
