Another London-Brighton route?

Reinstatement of the Horsted Keynes-Haywards Heath spur would create a new through route from London to Brighton - albeit perhaps only for emergencies.

While it is not on anyone’s agenda to have diverted commuter expresses sharing the Bluebell Railway platforms with steam, it would be technically possible to do so.

This is more than can be said for another potential alternative route to Brighton, via Uckfield and Lewes.

Despite campaigns for reinstatement of the section of the Wealden Line that shut on May 4 1969, and support from former Transport Minister and local MP Norman Baker, the Government has halted all future development work because it says there is no robust business case.
