Barrow Hill’s belated birthday

89001 Avocet, Europhoenix 91117, East Midlands Railway 156498 and 37610 are among the locomotives and vehicles gathered at Barrow Hill on August 26, for its 150+2 Celebration Gala. It was so-called because the Coronavirus pandemic had delayed celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the UK’s last surviving roundhouse with an operational turntable. More than 2,000 visitors attended the three-day event to see attractions including a replica of a EECo Type 2 Class 23 ‘Baby’ Deltic (inset).
