Johnson’s sorry legacy
It is curious that Industry Insider rates Boris Johnson as a supporter of public transport (RAIL 962).
His reckless and expensive interventions - Boris Island, Garden Bridge, Emirates cable cars, Boris Bus, halting the expansion of the successful congestion charge, delaying pollution restrictions
- all served to undermine the
remarkable Ken Livingstone legacy.
And the HS2 Notice to Proceed was to save the construction industry, not to help public transport. Douglas Oakervee’s recommendations for a cheaper and less destructive template were ignored.
Johnson’s provisions for separate cycle ways came late in his days, although they were a positive intervention.
