Metro extension reaches Digbeth

-

A major milestone has been reached on the Birmingham Eastside Metro extension, following installation of the first section of track in Digbeth.

A total of 45 metres of double track has been laid between Meriden Street and Digbeth High Street, since workers returned to site following a pause in activity during this summer’s Commonwealth Games.

The 1.7km extension will run from Bull Street in Birmingham city centre to Digbeth, adding four new tram stops to the network.

More than half of the route will be catenary free, similar to the existing extension from Grand Central to Centenary Square.
