Merseyrail closer to being step-free
Merseyrail will be just 11 short of making all its stations step-free if it secures a fresh tranche of money from the Government’s Access for All scheme.
It has identified the next ten for improvements, adding to the 58 already done. The next stations to be tackled are Aigburth, Bromborough, Cressington, Earlestown, Hough Green, Port Sunlight, Rock Ferry, Spital, Wallasey Village, and Walton.
A new lift opened at Birkenhead Park last month, and construction is under way at Hunts Cross, Hillside and St Michael’s.
Northern passengers will also benefit as work begins on a new lift at Broad Green station next year.
