Bank’s moving walkways open

- TRANSPORT FOR LONDON.

Interim London Transport Commissioner Andy Lord (left) and Transport for London Chief Capital Officer Stuart Harvey opened two new 100-metre moving walkways and three new escalators connecting the Northern and Central lines at Bank station on October 28.

The opening of the new interchange came just 15 days after three new escalators were unveiled between the Northern Line and the

Docklands Light Railway (RAIL 969). Bank became the first station in Europe to have a moving walkway when one was installed as an exit route from the Waterloo & City Line in 1960.

The current upgrade is designed to increase capacity by 40% and reduce transit times for the 40% of passengers who use Bank to change between lines.
