Clapham Junction entrance upgrade
Network Rail is spending a further £15.5 million on Clapham Junction station, to improve passenger flow on its southwestern side.
Much of the latest work is around the Brighton Yard entrance, at bridge level off St John’s Hill.
The controversial closure of its ticket office (and installation of more self-service machines) will create extra space for five new shops and better toilets.
The gatelines will be widened and increase in number, but there will be fewer cycle storage spaces. The ticket office at the St John’s Hill entrance is staying open.
Work already carried out has been the provision of free WiFi, refurbishment of the lifts, and repainting the overbridge between Platforms 1 and 6.
The third phase of work will continue in December with the replacement and widening of the current staircases on Platforms 13 and 14. When the work is complete, £35m will have been spent at the station.
