Highly Commended (Large)
London Paddington (Elizabeth line)
A brand new entrant to the NRA following its opening in May, the Elizabeth line station at Paddington was credited with having “excellent” passenger information and ticketing. It is also staffed by “a helpful and enthusiastic” team which has been busy gearing up for a doubling of service frequency this autumn.
Judges were particularly impressed by the design and architecture of the station’s main ticket hall, which has “brought daylight into the mezzanine area while catering for large crowds and providing level access for all interchanges, including the Bakerloo Line”.
Cambridge (Greater Anglia)
The 2017 Large Station of the Year has once again been ranked highly, owing to “the high-quality refurbishment of listed buildings combined with modern customer facilities”.
Used by almost 12 million passengers a year before the pandemic, the station was expanded to eight platforms in 2011, while a larger concourse was opened in the original Great Eastern Railway building in early 2017.
The judges added: “We find that Cambridge is upping its game each year. Good signage and proactive staff guide interchange passengers, and the station also features a huge multi-storey cycle park.”
