Restore Lamport Link

-

I have long agitated for restoration of the Northampton-Market Harborough line (known to some as the Lamport Link).

The Northampton Gateway Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (NGSRFI) is yet another reason for having the Lamport Link up and running. The utility of the NGSRFI will surely be enhanced by enabling its access to the East Midlands.

Years ago, this line was considered sufficiently important to be doubled, and a second tunnel was bored.

Restoring the link will entail a new alignment near Market Harborough, unless an embankment is rebuilt and a bridge put back in place at the town. These are minor challenges,

considering the benefits to accrue.

A passenger service could be provided to link the West Coast Main Line with the Midland Main Line, although I am not in favour of reopening any wayside stations along the Link.

There is a bus service joining Northampton to Market Harborough. But to go all the way by bus is hard on the passengers, as the journey is slow, noisy and bumpy.
