Brigg’s Saturday service returns
The Lincolnshire towns of Brigg and Kirton-in-Lindsey are celebrating the return of Sheffield-Cleethorpes trains on Saturdays, from December 17.
They were withdrawn at the start of the year because of staffing issues after COVID-19, and no alternative bus service was provided by Northern.
Ironically, TransPennine Express has a depot at Cleethorpes, but is not responsible for this route.
Paul Johnson, founder of the volunteer-run Independent Brigg Line Rail Group, said: “We have received a oneday-a-week train service since October 1993. Despite everyone’s efforts, the Department for Transport thinks it’s fit and proper that we only get it on one day.”
