Man jailed for assault at Wigan

A man who attacked a rail worker when he was caught fare dodging at Wigan Wallgate has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.

Michael Lucas assaulted Colin Spicer, who works as a gateline officer for Carlisle Support Services on behalf of Northern, on February 6. Spicer required hospital treatment for the facial injuries he sustained.

The conviction follows an appeal by Northern in September for the public’s help in identifying the perpetrators of more than 70 dangerous attacks on its trains in the last 12 months.
