Southern’s war dead honoured
Dover’s former Western Docks station, which played a key role in two world wars, was visited by senior railway figures on October 28 for the rededication of the SECR memorial 100 years after its unveiling.
As well as commemorating the 1,238 dead, Southeastern signed an Armed Forces Covenant to affirm its support for The Royal British Legion.
The old station, once also known as Dover Marine, handled over 720,000 servicemen. It closed in September 1994 and is now a liner terminal.
