Redcar on railtour’s itinerary

On October 22, 50008 and 37418 work the 0530 Derby-Saltburn ‘Saltburn Alternative’ Branch Line Society railtour past the soon-to-be-demolished Redcar steelworks. The last blast furnace on Teesside (which had once been one of more than 90) was closed in 2015. The site is adjacent to Teesport that was previously used for iron ore, coal and other raw material imports, plus steel exports, most of which was moved by rail.
